Karl Deeter, CEO of, cautions homeowners that interest rates on mortgages bought by vulture funds may increase as high as 10% by the end of the year. In this two-tier mortgage market, older customers with performing loans can switch banks or fix their rates to lessen the impact of European Central Bank rate hikes. Although the rates on equity-release mortgages are still high, some older borrowers may be able to switch.
